Mr Holland’s Opus

Inspiring, moving & hard warming, a must-watch by all music teachers… pretty long movie for a one seating, so i took it into two halves… the movie shows what a music teacher goes thru and most of the time we teachers too get frustrated and just stop at the problem, very seldom we blame ourselves for not sourcing the appropriate solution for the problem itself - the student. Definitely, i can relate myself with Mr Holland at sections of the movie; but not to the extent of conducting… wahaha… piano teaching is enough for now… teaching one student after the other is like “factory production”… back in my days in other music school, it felt that way…just training students for piano exams…BORINGGGG…anyway, anyone who would like to borrow the dvd, it is a must watch, and do take time to reflect each time a new chapter starts… each chapter, there is a title which describes what that section of the movie is about… this line strikes me the most, Mr Holland said, “i will use and do whatever it takes in order for me to teach that class.” not easy, really not easy… to me, it is “knowing your student as your piano teacher has known you”. Teaching music notes is easy, teaching to inspire is never easy. Lastly, be yourself; never belittle what lies inside each one of u :D :D :D  movie review by js.lim
