What kind of teacher are you?
Nothing is as pathetic as a defeated authority who does not admit to that defeat.-R Dreikurs
Do you believe that imposing your will on children is the only way you can control a class? A teacher who is committed to “making”pupils d as they are told, forcing them to learn, berating them when they don’t, punishing any misdemeanor and denying any creative freedom of expression is one who is autocratic and tyrannical. Were you taught in that manner? Did you like the teachers who treated you that way? If you had an autocratic music teacher, would you continue on with your music lessons?
Have you ever heard a teacher said that you’re hopeless in music and told your parents that you should give up music? No one child should ever be considered “hopeless,”according to Alfred Adler. Any child who is told that she is a failure is being deprived of her dignity and as a result will lose respect for herself.

I think Beethoven was forced to play the piano in a pretty draconian manner. But that would definitely turn off 99% of the students. I think patience is the key to being a good music teacher.

True that Beethoven may have been forced to play the piano. If it had not been, then we will never have all the wonderful pieces to enjoy playing or listening. His father knew he was talented and drove him to pursue, so as parents we need to encourage our children when they prefer to do something else instead of learning and practising music. These days, children have too many distractions.
